The Golf Tournament Comes Together

Posted on 16th Jun 2009 @ 4:44 PM

Finally, after months of hard work the game day has finally arrived. The day that all the hard earned effort comes together. And just as you begin to finally kick back, be prepared that there will be obstacles that will come. Preparing for game day obstacles should be a big part of your plan. However, as you have well prepared & have everything ready given rain or shine, remember to stay calm & collected as these obstacles arrive. Remember the biggest objective is it's game to play for fun. Your players, no doubt will be looking to meet this goal, therefore so should you.

Keep your objectives clear throughout the day:
1) Show Everyone a Great time
2) Recognize Key Players
3) Have Many Winners
4) Keep them Coming Back

Make sure to hold a meeting early & have all the volunteers there. Gift them the details of the day & discuss the obstacles. Set up a nice welcoming committee – greet & give your attendees clear instructions & be personable. Be sure to have a printed schedule of events, a map of the course, clubhouse, restrooms etc.

Set up fun activities through the day. Your golfers will get bored sitting around waiting. Try to fill the day with fun & memorable activities like - celebrity performances, music, a short motivational seminar from an athlete, auctions, games & photos.

Hire a professional photographer & videographer to catch all the winning shots. Have an awards ceremony, as this will be the last impression. It should be fun & upbeat. Get a great MC who will make everyone feel like they are a winner. Recognize your sponsors & volunteers & give the prizes out last. Most importantly, be sure you go over your original checklist 3-4 times the day before the event to make sure you have all your I’s dotted & T’s crossed. Now you can breathe.
