The Golfers: A Key to Success of a Golf Tournament

Posted on 16th Jun 2009 @ 4:12 PM

Now that you have most details of your event in place and most of the financial part sorted, you can move on to planning one of the most imperative components. That is—finding golfers to play. And if you want to sell out your event, try to get golfers that really know how to play the game and can keep your event competitive.

The golfers that will be motivated to participate will be the players that believe in your cause & are wiling to give their time, they can receive added values and incentives – such as: a great golf course, free entry fee & gifts, great food & drinks, and a great tee package. Some golfers will be honored if asked by a friend or committee member to play.

You should go about recruiting golfers similar to how you recruit sponsors, fundraisers or advertisers – working your connections. Typically you can find them through friends of committee members working on the event, employees of the business sponsors, friends or returning golfers. You can also use tools like the internet, direct mail/email marketing campaigns, advertising in golf magazines or media – TV, Radio, Newspaper, Internet etc.

Another great way is to ask your committee members to commit to getting 4 people for a foursome. If 9 committee members meet this goal the result will be 36 teams, 144 golfers = a sell out.
